Monochroming Around

by Matthew T. Murray

Polka-dots, you are a friend and foe simultaneously. Our love-hate dates back to the tender, impressionable yesteryears of Junior High School when trendy trolls sauntered around the hallways in Juicy Couture zip-ups and dot-strewn tutus. It was a look. It was THE look. Well, technically, it was Regina George and Cady Heron's look but we all made fetch happen. In the dark ages of Mean Girls-laced wardrobes, the polka-dot became the pattern du-jour. To my young and impressionable eyes, this look was the style equivalent of walking into Dunkin Donuts after a five-day juice cleanse. It was freakin' good!

Looking back on it now, I cringe at these polka-dots that infested back in 8th grade - preteen girls willingly morphed into sartorial sewer rats all crawling about marking their territory. But now this look has come full circle - and pun is definitely intended so please allow a grin or two. Polka-dots have lunged back into the style sphere as a way to add feminine flair to a fabulous look.

Mix this lustworthy Burberry Prorsum clutch into your dinner date looks. Keep the rest of the look monochromatic with a no-frills, effortless white blouse, black leather pants and sensationally strappy heels. Add some sparkle with inexpensive earrings from Bauble Bar and paint the town polka! Regina George, eat your heart out!
