WHAT TO WEAR TO HOLIDAY PARTIES

It's that time of year again. The one where you drink four too many cocktails and gain seventeen pounds in a week (don't worry - you'll lose it all in the new year, or so your New Years' resolutions promise). It's holiday season again! You already bought mommy those earrings she not-so-subtly hinted at and you're already furiously fielding through gaggles of group texts about New Year's Eve plans.

And while you love Christmas and the promise of an ugly sweater party - don't worry, I'll do a round-up of all the best ugly sweaters really soon! - your company holiday party is this week!

And because you ended up ferociously flirting with that intern followed-by a classless vomit session in the bathroom (you forgot what tequila does to your liver) at last year's holiday party, it's time to redeem yourself and let those SLAY bells ring. Your #goals: impress the boss and shut that minx of a secretary up (you know that secretary - she who hyena-cackles at her own jokes and has a different Forever21 faux-fur dress for each day of the week).

Every girl in the office will be wearing some type of sparkle with some form of cheap sweater so why not opt for a fashion-forward look that might have sprung joyously from the pages of Harper's Bazaar?

A festive fringe jacket (this one is Saint Laurent) coupled with a Hibiscus-print tiered dress (thank you for the fashionz Marc Jacobs!) is the bee's knees. The juxtaposition of fringe and florals makes this look sing with style! Pair with chocolate brown booties and a Christmas-colored bag and you're ready to knock the socks off of that snooty little secretary. Goodbye socks! Farewell Felicia!

Feather and Fringe

by Matthew T. Murray

Street style. Two little words, one large impact. Like-minded fashion girls nationwide look to the never-ending slideshows of fashion's finest during Fashion Month (Hanneli! Anna! Miroslava! Random chick with the Chanel bag that has haunted precisely seventeen dreams of mine!) to inform the way they dress. I comb through these slideshows like a salivating puppy - more appropriately, let's go with a starved and ravenous eagle - but each click brings about a mixed Dior bag of emotions: a little inspiration, a lot of envy, some confusion (how the f*&# did the street style gods deem basic jeans and a t-shirt worthy of a snap!?), and a smile here and there that I give permission to surface on the corners of my mouth. More than anything else, street style thrills me and makes me want to spruce things up in my own wardrobe and share just how you can too.

This Outfix above screams 'Phil Oh, please photograph me or I will die an untimely death sans make-up!'. And lookie, lookie, Phil Oh already did a whole thing on the street style set rocking suede fringe so you're a shoe-in for a well-deserved snap. But damn, pair the fringe with feathers and gurl, you just won Fashion Week! The feathery top, too, is by none other than newly-minted street style necessary-designer Marques'Almeida - who has gotten the best buzz this week from both my spirit animal Leandra Medine of Man Repeller and the Greek gods of fashion - the writers of Style.com. To give the dripping tassels of fringe and the fluffity fluffiness of feathers a bit of a necessary tone-down, pair with light-wash denim and a peachy-pink bag( I am kind of am obsessed with it and featured here by the way!).

Shop this Outfix below:

Top by Marques'Almeida, $579  /  Jeans by Zara, $80  /  Lipstick by NARS, $26  /  Handbag by Zara, $90  /  Heels by Schutz, $135

Fringe Benefits

by Matthew T. Murray

The bloodshot-eyes of fashion girls nationwide have been following the Style.com slideshows of the spring 2015 shows like ravenous hawks zeroing-in and swooping down on unexpecting prey. In this case, they prey is Proenza Schouler and I am the haughty, huffy hawk. Proenza was a showcase of American sportswear with unconventional touches (a punch of python here, an unexpected Prince of Wales check there, fringe shimmying about like it was the 1920s or a hoedown in Montana - your pick). And here is the great takeaway of what's happening on the runways now: it's just as easy peezy lemon squeezy to copy it now. And hey, we all want instant gratification like Veruka Salt, don't we?

Well, this Outfix takes the fabulous fringe from Proenza Schouler and tones it the eff down so you look like a human being and not like this dog. Take another page from Proenza and pair fringe with more fringe unabashedly - a fringe clutch in an opposite shade pairs quite nicely! Then, last steps: add a borrowed-from-the-boys plaid shirt (roll up the sleeves, unleash a few buttons to show off that decolletage or lack thereof), pair with the most killer of all killer heels: Aquazarra's snakeskin stunner, and add a bit of sparkle with Dannijo's blinged-out necklace. While you're at, look at how It-girl du jour Olivia Palermo paired plaid with fringe for a little "I really can do this and look freakin' cool" affirmation. Wam! Bam! You got a look.

Also, in case you didn't know what a fringe benefit is: here ya go !

Shop this Outfix:

Shirt by Madewell, $78  /  Skirt by Nasty Gal, $198  /  Necklace by Dannijo, $448 (similar for under $50 here) /  Bag by Zara, $30  / Heels by Aquazurra, $795 (similar for $80 here)
