The Outfix

Summah Fridai

Summer Friday Final Outfix.jpg
Summer Friday Final Outfix.jpg

Summer Friday's here. Three little words with the uncanny ability to bring you to tears of pure joy. Three little words that parallel the exuberant thrill of another big-three-worder: Barneys Warehouse Sale. Three little words that share the saving grace of a hydratingly-dehydrating, financially-draining Grande Iced Coffee habit. Alright, you get the Polaroid.

Anywhoo... so Summer Friday means that you're tired, you're lazy and you're jumping on the Hamptons Jitney at 2 pm on the dot so there is absolutely no time for fuss or szush this morning. From your crammed cubicle on the West Side to Westhampton, this outfit is a midsummer's dream. Life is too short to feel like shit even on a Summer Friday, where the temptation to wear a muumuu and look like Ms. Swan is at the greatest peak of the work-week.

Throw on a breezy Zara tuxedo shirt, boyfriend jeans with the right amount of artful distress, Schutz heels with a little bit of bling to put the pep in your step and a straw tote with rainbow chevron that has a whiff of Missoni to it. This outfit is the easy answer to the rhetorical question: "what in the hell of hells do I wear on a day where I could give less than a shit about what I wear?". Shop that kind of magic below:

Top by Zara, $30  /  Jeans by Zara, $80  /  Tote by J. Crew, $98  /   Heels by Schutz, $220

A Miranda Kerr Polish

by Matthew T. Murray

'When I met you in the Summer... We fell in loveeee' raves Calvin Harris' in the jarringly repetitive but wondrously anthemic song. I'm thinking he may have been talking about these Loeffler Randall shoes but am awaiting final confirmation from his people. These shoes are a midsummer's dream of Shakespearian heights - the pastel and leopard touches would pair well with anything from an LWD to boyfriend jeans to some kooky concoction that you thought was a cute look but realized in retrospect was a sartorial mishap of epic proportions. But hey, you live and you learn! Now, back to the shoes... they are pretty and polished, just like this drag queen-unicorn-hybrid but perhaps a little more understated. Pair these shoes with a pastel-pinky Givenchy bag (supa-expensive but supa-worth it as you can wear it with 4207813 outfits, last time I counted!), a slinky Tibi top and khakis of the non-heterosexual-male-variety meaning they're really, really good and a deviation from this hot mess.

This Outfix was inspired by style-chanteuse Miranda Kerr. She somehow always finds a balance between polished and pretty and I could definitely see her donning this look, if I not-so-humbly-say-so-myself. I look forward to her looks, whether she be strutting through the airport with style and grace or posing on the red carpet, all glitz and glamour. She's so freakin' stylish, there is even a Tumblr dedicated to her outfits. That's how you know you've made it. That and multi-million dollar modeling contracts but mostly a Tumblr!

Shop this Outfix:

Top - Tibi

Pants - Isabel Marant

Bag - Givenchy

Shoes - Loeffler Randal

Sporty Spice

by Matthew T. Murray

There's something to be said of the off-kilter 90s-redux bomber. The swishy stable has made a comeback - albeit never having really taken a farflung vacation but nonetheless boisterously announcing its arrival with a bang like a chica making her entrance at a Quinceanera in a glittery froth of a dress. While the satin bomber has seen its fair share of variations through the years (the 80s was its heyday but the 90s was the more sporty, Crayola-bright take on the jacket that I so adore).

This tale as old as time is now the one thing you ought to buy. Sartorially speaking, this ruby-red satin Marc by Marc Jacobs is a slam dunk (get it? Oh, not funny. Okay. I'll stop. Now.) I'm loving it with distressed denim, a glossy shoe and a boxy bag in a milky tone - all ingredients that give the look a profesh factor.

Lest you be fooled by the presumably-limited ways to wear said jacket in question, this Mark E Mark one can be worn with everything from a midi skirt (a summer white skirt with this jacket? Mull it over and get back to me) to a sleek tuxedo trouser for a rejuvenated take on menswear. Unfortunately, the price point for this puppy is flinch-worthy - $548 snackaroos - so I took the liberty of rounding up outstanding options from the Interwebs that have the same lustrous appeal as the Marc for a lesser-than price point (and one that I'm so obsessed with, I could not help but throw it in!). Whether you blow two months' rent and splurge on the 3.1 Philip Lim rendered in the most tubular of turquoise I've seen since Blue Crush or save your dough with the artfully-printed pseudo-Oriental Zara option ($79), these beauties are far from banal. Sporty Spice but twice as nice!

                                                                      &nbs…

3.1 Philip Lim  -  Rebecca Minkoff   -  Zara
