The Outfix

Classic / Cool

by Matthew T. Murray

There's fashion and then there's this. My eyes popped out of my head like a freakin' Looney Tune who has just spent the day on acid with Miley Cyrus when I laid eyes on a woman who dared to wear a Valentino bow-blouse and bohemian-riche skirt (both undoubtedly editorial hits of the season) with Nike Air Force 1s. She is freaking cool. It got me thinking about something else that's freaking cool: the Adidas Stan Smith - the unlikely 'It' shoe of this summer. Leandra Medine thinks so and I love her the way I love corn dogs after six margaritas which is to say - I love her more than is healthy.

I'm drinking the Kool Aid on these sneaks and this look packs a punch! Brief Interlude: I heretofore have gathered little to no information on the elusive Stan Smith other than that the being in question held a tennis raquet and was good at such an art form. I care for sports like the heterosexual male cares for Girls. Now that this tangent has taken its course, case-in-point time. A delightful knot-tie blouse + funky yet fab florals + Stan Smiths = classic yet cool, or cool yet classic - pick your poison, I'll pick mine. Like a middle-aged stripper moonlighting as a Pre-School teacher by day, this look may cause scratching of head (and inevitably dandruff along with that) but the fashion-frenzied girls who pronounce Proenza Schouler the right way, will know you got it. Just like this girl - yes, I'm still thinking about her - she who wears Valentino with Nikes and dates a bearded man presumably from Brooklyn but actually from Australia.

Sporty Chic

by Matthew T. Murray

They have Lebron, we have Lanvin. Heterosexual males jettison into stadiums to rant and rave about 'touchdowns' and 'slam dunks' - Budweiser dripping from their unkempt beards-, while heterosexual females click through the razzle-dazzle runway slideshows on Style.com to rant and rave about 'Tibi' and 'Schouler' - a glass of pinot swishing about in this glass. Different experience, same thrill.

Enough about the sports. Let's get down to bidness. This dress is the knees of bees - the crown jewel of easygoing dresses that moonlight as personal air-conditioning systems when the humidity is sky-high and your body has become a living manifestation of a honeycomb. Throw a pair of Dannijo's rustic-glam earrings on your lovely lobes and strap into some dirt-cheap but viscerally-expensive-looking-to-those-not-in-the-loop patent shoes and your ready to twirl through New York. Easy, breezy, lemon-squeezy!

Banana Republic x Marimekko

by Matthew T. Murray

I started this blog on the whim and fervent belief that the Internet can become your closet. Can't afford that Edie Parker clutch? Pin it. Can't justify tossing thousands down a metaphorical drain (the cash wrap at Saks Fifth Avenue, to be exact) on a Stella McCartney slinky neoprene dress? Drool away on Net-a-Porter, take a screenshot and then print that shizz out. When the fashions of the Internet and all of its glittering accoutrements are unearthed with the click of a mouse, this is a thing of sheer beauty. But come on, what about the actual purchasing of said pretty pieces? When it's not enough to just glance at a garment and droll, it's time to ATC - 'Add to Cart' for the uninitiated shopaholic unfamiliar with the phrase. ATC is possible with this Outfix.

The Marimmeko line for Banana Republic is breathing life back into the Interwebs - now squealing 'Hallelujah' from their URL. The collection ($39 to $149) is the answer to the well-heeled yet cash-strapped twentysomething paving her way through the urban jungle with style and flair (and credit card debt). This skirt caught my eye the way a Pink Champagne macaron does - I begin to foam at the mouth like a rabbid spidermonkey than proceed to pant like an overweight puppy. Yup, that's the euphoria. This skirt ($98) has madcap charm and is the dotty way to take on the day. Add in a metallic clutch with perforations of miniature little hearts, pink cat-eye frames, and black patent sandals. Shop away!
