Beach Bound

When it comes to spectacular swimwear, Mara Hoffman has cornered the market.

Punchy prints and eye-popping color are her trademark and the brand has quickly become the a favorite with the fickle birds of fashion's flock. With Memorial Day just around the bend, it’s time to snap up some of Little Miss Hoffman’s swimmingly chic pieces and head to the beach. This look sings with style and will translate from the shores of St. Tropez to the beaches of Rockaway (see what I did there? See!). Anywhoo, everyone from my Tory Burch-clad mommy to my pseudo-rebellious sixteen-year old neighbor with hair that is currently the shade of Big Bird is digging this look so it seems to be that rare gem of a look that could easily work for young chicks and older chics.

Pair this acid trip print bikini with rosy pink Ray-Bans and Delman’s magnificent metallic silver sandals. A light tunic and panama hat adds Kate Moss moxy to your look. Don’t forget to pack the SPF to avoid looking like the female version of this creature. Shop this Outfix here:

Double Duty

by Matthew T. Murray

As far as tricky trends go, a bralet tops the list. And while I don't suggest you saunter into the office in this saucy little number, I wholeheartedly advise you to to strut your stuff in these looks this weekend.

When the climes get sweltering, a bralet is perfect for an easygoing daytime jaunt around Central Park or a nifty nighttime look. Sidenote: when tackling tough trends, always dip your toes in with the inexpensive version before diving head-first and spending triple digits on that Clover Canyon bralet you eyed at Intermix. This version is Topshop and it's 18 buckaroos - the equivalent of a week's worth of iced coffees at Starbucks - or what I spend there shamelessly in a day.

For a dainty daytime look, pair it pretty with a sporty-chic skirt (thanks again to the magical elves at Topshop!), trendy tortoise frames, a gleaming silver sandal and a country-chic bag. If you dare to wear to work, I kindly suggest you pick up a blazer from Madewell or H&M to avoid the porno-chic tailspin this trend may veer you headfirst into.

For evening, distressed boyfriend jeans tone it down while pop-art Miu Miu stilletos vamp it up. A colorful and kitschy plaid clutch complements the navy hue of the bralet and a hot pink lip screams with style.

Carrie Bradshaw Part Deux

by Matthew T. Murray

I have a sick obsession with Carrie Bradshaw's style like most fashion fiends lucky enough to witness the glory days of Sex and the City. And while the movies showcased a glittery wardrobe sprinkled with designer duds, the show presented a more realistic but equally well-heeled Carrie. As I've mentioned before,  it is not the Manolos that made Carrie but rather Carrie who made the Manolos.

This look has that quintessentially Bradshaw appeal: slightly glam, slightly off-kilter, a wee bit confusing and possibly upon first glance. But what's not to love about the helter-skelter pairing of sequin-strewn Alice and Olivia with paint-splattered American Eagle cargo pants? Strap on sinister snakeskin heels and a fringy, sequin pallete bag that looks as if it was brought back to life after an overdose at Studio 54 and you've got the formula that made Miss Bradshaw the style chameleon she was and continues to be.
