Carrie Quite Contrary

by Matthew T. Murray in Casual, Work

Carrie is the queen of the outlandish outfit. No, not pig blood-splattered Carrie (though that telekinetic twit may have been the unlikely inspo behind Saint Laurent's glitter and grunge prom queen for spring 2016) but Ms. Carrie Bradshaw.

Whenever I craft these outfits, I think of the fictional femme. She marched to the beat of her own drum and threw together looks that would now be instant street style fodder. Carrie never met a tutu she didn't like so this Elizabeth & James white tulle cloud of a skirt is the perfect remedy to a tired wardrobe.

Paired with a Gucci rainbow-clad sweater (see, the rainbow really is in!), a candy-striped Milly clutch, and canary-yellow Cole Haan loafers. This has baddie Bradshaw written all over it. Maybe add a corsage and nameplate necklace for good measure!

Coach's Embellished Racer Jacket

by Matthew T. Murray in CASUAL

When building outfits that dreams are made of, I usually start with one core item that gives me goosepumps and build the look around it. When I spotted this Coach leather jacket, it was love at first sight and my heart belted Celine Dion songs because life just won't go on without it.

The jacket is givin' me 80's-glam rock vibes so I wanted the rest of the look to serve some hippie-dippie 70's with the rainbow-adorned Anya Hindmarch bag, the perfect cropped flair Victoria Beckham jeans, and the now-iconic Chewbacca Gucci slippers that every fashion editor in New York traipses around town in.

Speaking of fashion editors, this outfit was inspired by Refinery29 Senior Style Editor Annie Georgia Greenberg. She has a killer sense of style and I often look to her for outfit post ideas and inspiration.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

by Matthew T. Murray in NIGHT OUT, PLAY

JANUARY 1, 2016

Gucci dress. Gucci shoes. Edie Parker clutch. Ray-Ban sunglasses.

New year, new you! Or at least time to step it up and become the boss ass chick you were meant to be! And what better way to do that then wearing a dress that screams with confidence!

I'm head-over-Louboutins obsessed with Gucci's metallic technicolor designs this season. This dress paraded down the Resort 2016 collection and from the moment I saw it, my heart fell out of my butt. That Alessandro dude is giving me way 2 much life with what he's doing at Gucci.

The rainbow stripe top is everything (check out yesterday's post!) but this dress really is what dreams are made of. And while the dress may be a fantasy, the price tag is a nightmare ($2,600!) so I found a few options just as fun as the Gucci - preppy here, hipster there, and skanky over here.

Even if you usually stick to a monochromatic palette, when designers send not one, two, nor three colors down the runway but 7 at once in a cluster-fuck of ROYGBIV, it's time to resolve to wear the rainbow and not just taste it!

And wearing the rainbow isn't as tricky as you'd think: pair it with metallic shoes, loudly matching bags, and colorful aviators (I'd suggest pink or blue)! But most importantly, smile and have a ton of fun! Bad moods and the colors of the rainbow do not work well together! Happy new year, ladies!
