HOW TO WEAR A FLARE

by Matthew T. Murray

'Twas a Monday today and nothing was right; your boss was a bitch, it gave you a fright. You wore your flare jeans with a DVF blouse, and received compliments, even from a mouse. With your Zara black platforms and H&M bag, told your boss eff off for she was an old hag. You lost your job, but in the end no matter, you look amazing today and your stomach looks flatter.

- SHOP -

Blouse by Diane von Furstenberg, $248 / Belt by ASOS, $15 / Jeans by H&M, $30 / Shoes by Zara, $119 / Handbag by H&M, $49

(Sidenote: This is the relaunch of The Outfix after a very long year of missing it. This is my first post back with many exciting ones to come. Stay tuned!)

Altuzarra for Target - EVERYTHING UNDER $100!

by Matthew T. Murray

Joseph Altuzarra is the newly-crowned design darling of the New York fashion circuit. His eponymous brand Altuzarra was 'born out of the desire to make the sophisticated modern woman feel seductive, strong and confident.' His spring 2015 collection was a tour de force of subverted glamour: adding sex appeal to a picnic print (see my Instagram!), sending down a slew of slender beauties in vixen looks worthy of a fetish fantasy not even Anastasia could handle, and finding that infallible interplay between provocative and pretty. And while his designs cost a pretty penny (most clock-in at around 2 grand!), now is your chance to snap 'em up on the cheap thanks to this phenomenally phenomenal Target collab of phenomic proportions (phenomic is not a word but for the purposes of exaggerative exaggerations, it will be henceforth!).

The Altuzarra Target collection has a haute emphasis on sprucing up your work wardrobe so you can be the belle of the ball from 9 to 5. But because I kind of am obsessed with playing with fire in terms of styling, I concocted this look envisioning a woman on-the-go darting from cubicle to cocktails. And at $35 for the skirt, buy it now or regret it later! Shop this Outfix below and note how everything rings-in for under $100!

T-shirt by H&M, $10  /  Skirt by Altuzarra for Target, $35  /  Sunnies by Warby Parker, $95  /  Handbag by Zara, $26  /  Heels by Zara, $90

The Wild Wild West (or How to be a Walking Ad Campaign for Isabel Marant)

by Matthew T. Murray in Outfits

In 2009, I fell in love with Isabel Marant. This Style.com slideshow was the shot heard round the world - or perhaps just around New York City and Paris. Nonetheless, it was a shot fired and one that would lead me down a rabbit hole of niche French designers to fall for (Vanessa Bruno's eponymous line and Jean Toitou's A.P.C. come to mind).

Isabel Marant's luxe-bohemian, Wild Wild West-twinged look was a new frontier in fashion. It nixed the frilly-dilly of bohemian looks in years past and gave it a sleek sophisticated je nes se quoi. Even the Wall Street Journal could not ignore the emergence of Miss Marant.  And when Isabel Marant would brought her vision to an H & M collaboration, it was the equivalent of seven Ben & Jerry's pints after a Master Cleanse - yup, that goood. But now that this is an thing of the past, it's time to try recreating the quintessential Marant look with some careful styling, attention to detail, and one piece from her lower-priced sister-line Etoile Isabel Marant. It's totally cowgirl but replace tumbleweed Montana with fashion capital Milan. Catch ma drift?

Shop this Outfix:

Shirt by H & M, $10  /  Skirt by Etoile Isabel Marant, $300  /  Hat by Zara, $60  /  Clutch by Valentino, $1,595 (similar for under $200 here)  /  Shoes by H by Hudson, $285
