Up The Wattage

by Matthew T. Murray in Casual, Work

Live life colorfully, but dress in black and white. There's something familiar yet fresh about this dual-colored look. A patriotic-tinged star print and a Lolita-esque bow up the wattage on what could've veered into basic black-and-white territory.

Given the 70-degree weather in the forecast, today's outfit feels right on target for a spring style statement. If the pants are a bit loud for your comfort zone, opt for a print-free black wide-leg style for a similar effect. But, remember reader, life is short. Try the freakin' star print!

Instant Polish

by Matthew T. Murray in Work

The devilish debauchery of my cousin's college career is coming to a screeching halt. Among her many rational fears of entering the real world, the one that rings loudest is what the fuck to wear after spending the past 4 years lounging around in sweatpants and sorority-emblazoned apparel funneling beers with fratty fuccbois?

I told her to find the perfect blazer. This black Gucci jacket with white piping fits the bill in adding instant office-ready polish to any look (and there's plenty of blazers at Zara and Mango that do the same trick). She's looking to venture into graphic design - an industry where Working Girl suits would be way too stuffy. This outfit straddles the balance between professional and casual. Best part: it moves seamlessly from the cubicle to cocktails.

Carrie Quite Contrary

by Matthew T. Murray in Casual, Work

Carrie is the queen of the outlandish outfit. No, not pig blood-splattered Carrie (though that telekinetic twit may have been the unlikely inspo behind Saint Laurent's glitter and grunge prom queen for spring 2016) but Ms. Carrie Bradshaw.

Whenever I craft these outfits, I think of the fictional femme. She marched to the beat of her own drum and threw together looks that would now be instant street style fodder. Carrie never met a tutu she didn't like so this Elizabeth & James white tulle cloud of a skirt is the perfect remedy to a tired wardrobe.

Paired with a Gucci rainbow-clad sweater (see, the rainbow really is in!), a candy-striped Milly clutch, and canary-yellow Cole Haan loafers. This has baddie Bradshaw written all over it. Maybe add a corsage and nameplate necklace for good measure!
